Peerless Group - Designing a BESS2 Rebate CRM for Australia’s Battery Transition

00

project description

As Australia’s battery adoption accelerated, new rebate programs like BESS2 created significant opportunities for both solar retailers and customers. However, the rebate application process was highly document-heavy, compliance-driven, and operationally inefficient. Peerless Group, an Accredited Certificate Provider (ACP), needed a streamlined platform to manage applications, review documentation, and submit rebate claims to IPART efficiently. Working directly with the company owner as the sole designer and developer, I led the complete design and development of a specialised CRM ecosystem focused on the BESS2 battery rebate workflow.

solution

I designed and developed two interconnected CRM systems: 1. A client-facing portal for solar retailers to upload customer and installation documents 2. An internal ACP operations portal for compliance review, approval workflows, and rebate submission management The platform simplified the end-to-end BESS2 process while ensuring alignment with PDRS and IPART compliance requirements.

Turning the Idea Into Reality

To deeply understand the problem space, I studied the full PDRS methodology documentation, analysed IPART implementation rules, and mapped every operational step involved in rebate generation. This research phase became critical because the workflow was not just a software problem — it was fundamentally a regulatory and operational design challenge.

I conducted:

  • UX mapping of installer and ACP pain points

  • Workflow analysis of rebate processing systems

  • Wireframing of document-heavy interfaces

  • Compliance-first information architecture planning

  • Form and validation design for energy rebate requirements

As the sole contributor on the project, I handled:

  • Product strategy

  • UX/UI design

  • Frontend and backend development

  • Database architecture

  • Document management systems

  • Submission workflows

  • User permissions and operational dashboards

The final system significantly reduced manual processing effort while making the rebate application journey more transparent and manageable for solar retailers and ACP operators.

Conclusion

The Peerless Group CRM demonstrated how thoughtful UX and operational design can simplify highly regulated energy workflows. By combining compliance knowledge with product thinking and full-stack development, the platform enabled faster rebate processing and supported the growing adoption of large-scale residential battery systems in Australia.
